The Netherlands is of course best known for its windmills, tulips and cheese. Still we do not all live in windmills or walk around in wooden shoes. As a exchange student in the Netherlands you will most certainly hear the words, "We are only a small country…" Do not miss the pride behind the words. While the Dutch do live in a small country, it is a nation of which they are extremely proud.

Individual rights and concepts such as freedom of religion and freedom of speech are deeply rooted in its history and culture, which means that the Dutch are very eager to speak their minds about anything and everything that happens in the world. By the time you go home, you will love this small country as much as the Dutch do themselves.

Programs

YFU The Netherlands offers you a High School program. You could participate for a whole school year or a semester. No matter how long you will be staying you will live in a host family, that will help you adjust to your new Dutch way of life.

As a participant in the High School Program you will attend senior secondary school (HAVO) or pre-university training (VWO). Your host family can live anywhere in the Netherlands, although placement in big cities such as Amsterdam and Rotterdam is rare. You will benefit from the YFU support system and will be invited to enjoy the camps and activities YFU offers. To participate in the High School program in the Netherlands you have to be between 15 and 18 years old.
